What is your most vivid memory of the kitchen in your childhood?
First, the one I think of is my Grandma’s kitchen. It was small but I loved sitting in it, talking to her, sometimes eating her made from scratch biscuits. Sometimes at Christmas it was standing room only for those who would like to gather there to talk and hang out.
We had several kitchens through the years in my family. I remember the one I baked my first cake in. We lost this house in a tornado in 1968. We lived in a rental for a year before we moved into the house that would be the last one I was in with my family and that my mom and stepfather owned before he passed away. The kitchen in this one was also a gathering place at Christmas. It was also the first room you entered when you went to visit mom. The one we always had the coffee in!
As a child, who was your favorite relative?
As a child, it was easily my maternal grandmother..you know, the one with the kitchen! I didn’t know many of the relatives on my dad’s side. That said, my Granda Ritter was amazing! I am sure I got my cooking ability from her, but aside from that, she loved her grandkids and always loved having everyone in her house at Christmas time-even when there got to be so many of us, some of us ate dinner sitting on the steps!
What did you or did not like about the first apartment you ever rented?
I am trying to remember my first apartment. It has been so long. All I know, is I bet I thought it was great, because it was my first apartment! I do remember one of the first ones I had, we had to share a shower down the hallway. It was disgusting.
What kind of TV commercial would you like to make? Describe it.
One with great music. One that you don’t watch and think, What the HECK was that? I dislike stupid commercials or ones that have nothing to do with the product they are selling. So I guess not only one with great music, but one that is relevant to what the commercial is selling!
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I am grateful for family. I enjoyed an impromptu lunch with a couple of my sisters. Most of all, I am grateful that I had my aunt Alice in my whole life and I had the honor to know her!
I am looking forward to seeing some relatives that I haven’t seen for awhile, even if the reason is a sad one.
